We are focusing our activities on the leadership
development of youth and adults. Our programs include
the following:

      Youth and adult leadership training that focuses on
      three core leadership values and time  
      management skills.

      An environmental leadership training course for
      adults that emphasizes developing sustainable
      community organizations committed to solving
      environmental problems.

      An adult drawing course that stregnthens "right-brained" competencies to establish    
      and enhance problem solving methodologies.

      Job-readiness training that prepares participants for job interviews, develops
      customer service "soft skills", and provides strategies for conflict resolution
      on the job site.

      An HIV/AIDS initiative that is a proactive approach specifically targeted to  young
      adults of school age in order to effect behavior change and social responsibility.
   







   


   
    

LFCDC Named Official AmeriCorps ACTS Program Site!

LFCDC’s HIV/AIDS education, counseling and testing headquarters at historic Vernon House located at Vernon Park in Germantown has been named an official AmeriCorps ACTS Program site by The Philadelphia AIDS Consortium (TPAC), creator of the program. AmeriCorps volunteers assigned to LFCDC will be canvassing throughout Germantown and doing HIV awareness community education and outreach. AmeriCorps volunteers who serve successfully for one year receive an educational award from the federal government that can be used for current educational costs at approved colleges, universities, other postsecondary institutions and school-to-work programs, or to pay back qualified student loans already incurred.

LFCDC Serves Working Group for a Grassroots Movement (WGGM) As Fiscal Sponsor

LFCDC has partnered with the Working Group for a Grassroots Movement (WGGM) to serve as their fiscal sponsor and to collaborate with and support its Food Justice Collaborative which promotes community gardening and neighborhood food production in North Philadelphia.


LFCDC  Chairman Awarded "Haven Hero Award"  - September 15, 2010  LFCDC Chairman John Elliott Churchville was presented with a "Hero" Award by the Haven Youth Center.  Dr. Churchville was recognized for his outreach efforts to his community concerning HIV education and prevention.

The Haven Youth Center is a center created for HIV positive kids and teens to encourage and assist them with their day to day struggles wth the disease.  William Brawner, founder and executive director of Haven Youth Center, is an HIV/AIDS activist determined to spread the word about HIV. “We make sure they take care of themselves as far as the disease is concerned, but [our] biggest concern is to make sure they are productive citizens.

LFCDC Afilliate  "Positive Voices"  Participates in Philadelphia AIDS Walk

Our City's famous Art Museum found Dawna Edwards , staff member of LFCDC and President of Positive Voices  front and center at the October 15, 2010 Philadelphia AIDS Walk.  Hers is a never ending vigil to represent and fight for Philadelphians  effected and affected by HIV.

Positive Voices ,  is an organization that alows  people with HIV to have a voice, and equips them with tools and skill sets to become viable assets in today's society. The organiztion offers the following programs:

* Peer Education,
* Re-Entry Program 
* GED Classes and
* Parenting Classes
